Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Officers mentioned they were notified by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.

Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.

An important representative said the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
